Herpes/Cold Sores Help, URGENT Plz! xx?
This morning I woke up with two massive cold sore thingies on my lips. I’ve suffered from cold sore outbreaks once or twice a year since I was about 8 years old. I was just browsing the net for creams/treatments for this, when it was suggested that this could be herpes! Herpes! Omg! I thought that was a sexually transmitted disease! But thinking back, I did have oral sex with my husband 2days ago. But then again, we have had oral sex tons of times that hant resulted in this outbreak. I’m confused as to what is the difference between Herpes and a cold sore, and if I’ve suffered from these from before I was ever sexually active then it can’t be herpes can it? Now I’m just totally confused as to what herpes is. Is this something IIm just suseptable and prone to, or did my husband give it to me? HELP! xx
Thank you everyone, all of your answers are brilliant, so informative, and have completly relieved me… thank u so much. Am totally struggling to choose a best answer now! xx

Is there a real and effective way to prevent getting cold sores?
I get a cold sore every couple of moths. They are sore and look horrible. Sometimes i get one and it isnt so bad and fades away within a few days but others it can be really big and last for ages. On the night of my prom i had 4 coldsores on different parts of my mouth. I got a coldsore for the first time when i was about 3 and have been getting them regularly ever since. Basically i am sick of it. Does anyone know of a treatment that will effectivley decrease if not stop the regularity and size of the cold sores? I use zovirax and although it does usually make it smaller and not last so long it doesnt prevent getting them and it isnt always effective. Please help

Need advice on my particular sore throat?
I was diagnosed with Strep Throat about 3 weeks ago and was prescribed an antibiotic. The antibiotic took care of the Strep within 2 days, but almost immediately I gained a new sore throat in its place that persisted the duration of the antibiotic treatment, and has now sustained itself for 1 week after finishing the antibiotics.
Symptoms include a very dry and painful throat in the morning, but is quickly subsided with a cool glass of water. Pain is pretty mild overall but a little more intense when yawning. I also feel some mild stinging on my upper soft palette if I don’t keep it well lubricated with water, or food. Eating food will subside all the uncomfortableness for a couple of hours, but I really need to be constantly drinking water to keep the pain away. I’ve had this for 3 weeks now and am a bit worried, I would like to know if this can be a common symptom of a cold virus, and what I mean is it out of the question to have a sore throat for a few weeks? How patient to be?

If a girl gets cold sores, but she uses carmex, can you get them from her?
I kissed a girl that had on a lot of carmex. I was told by her friend 2 hous later that the girl that kissed me gets cold sores. I was told that carmex helps to prevent the passing of hsv-1. There were no signs of lesions on her lips or around her mouth. I’ve never had cold sores and I’ve tested negative for hsv-1/hsv-2. My lips were dry which is why I’m scared because I heard that hsv-1 can be passed on through a crack in dry skin and through “asymptomatic shedding”, which is when it appears there’s no signs of an outbreak. What are my chances of contracting hsv-1? And should I be worried? Any pre-treatments to prevent it?
I’m sorry if I come across as paranoid. I don’t have the antibodies for it, so I’m very scared.

What is the percentage of the chance of oral herpies spread?
I have a girl I’ve been seeing that has lip herpies. I was wanting to know the chances of them spreeding this to others by kiss. The % of the chance would be very helpful. I would like to know about when cold sores or fever blisters are pressent and when they are not pressent. With and without treatment. Thank You

I have a sinus cold and when I blow my nose tears squirt from my left eye. Why?
Its incredibly annoying. I already have a cold with enough sinus pain and congestion to kill a bear, and now everytime I blow my (raw and scabbed over) nose, I also have to wipe the sensitive skin around my eye. Now my eye is also red as well as sore from all the wiping. I know the tear ducts and sacs are connected to the nasal passage so that when you cry excess tears run down your throat and nose explaining why you need to blow your nose when you cry, but this is totally backwards…I blow my nose and it makes me cry. I do not have a blocked tear duct. Is there a reason for this or a valid medical explaination as well as treatment? I know it seems frivilous, but I am already sick enough without having to deal with spontaneous and now painful tears.
Oh, and you can actually see the tears being forced out with each burst of air from my nose – I watched it in the mirror.
