Candygirl asked:
when I was 16 i got a cold sore on my bottom lip, but I didnt know at the time that that’s what it was, I thought it was a pimple or something and i popped it. a few minutes later that side of my bottom lip got swelled and then by the end of the day the other side got swelled and i ended up w/ this swelled bottom lip. i was told that any cold sore lip treatment can do the trick so i had gotten Blistex and put it on my lip but I guess i was to late because the damage had already been done.

Now, my lip didnt swell big time or anything jsut a small swell but it still looks weird to me and I dont like it, I’ve learned to live with it and hide it and all.
Now I’m 20 and I got a similiar looking sore on my lip yesterday and I didnt pop it but I put on some blistex medication and when I woke up this morning it was gone. I had a doctor check up today and I told her about it and she told me there’s a medication called Benadryl that can deal w/ the swelling. Now my question is can it heal my swelling from when I was 16 and bring my bottom lip to the size it was b4? Or is there anything I cant do? I’m not really allergic to anything either so is benadryl a good option or are there better ones?

Benadryl is an antihistamine, it helps with allergies. If a rash or a swelling is caused by an allergy, it could help. I find it doubtful, though, that it would make something go away that has been there for four years. You could try a steroid cream, ask your pharmacist.
But you should probably see a dermatologist.

A dermatologist would be the best person to tell you if there are better treatments out there. I have used Benadryl for all types of allergies, because I am an allergic person by nature. I cannot imagine my home without Benadryl.
I will give you a true story. I am extremely allergic to nuts, so of course I accidentally ate some when I was eating a meal. My mouth began burning and swelling from the reaction to the nuts, I immediately crunched on a tablet of Benadryl and gulped down lots of water, within several minutes the swelling and burning began to cease. Within an hour I was fine. Benadryl is the best, I just don’t like how it makes you feel sleepy.
Anyways, back to your question. I doubt Benadryl will be able to do anything for a problem you have had for the past fours years. Benadryl can reduce swelling, but it depends on what the problem is. I take it only if I am having swelling due to an allergic reaction (as described earlier), or insect bites (I will crush the tablets up, mix it with lotion, and apply it to the effected area). I probably have not answered your question, but definitely talk with your doctor or dermatologist. Good luck.
