Cold sores?

Posted on Saturday, July 10, 2010 in Alternative Medicine
Nathalie asked:

I know there is no cure for the herpes virus (my husband and I have had the virus since we were both kids – not sexually transmitted) now my 13yr. old daughter has VERY frequent outbreaks around her mouth. At her age they can be especially embarrassing. How can I help her? Is there perhaps some treatment that might make the virus dormant or “go in remission” as it has for me for appx. 7 yrs. now?

Strenghtening the immune system can be the best defense against cold sore outbreaks. Make sure she eats a well balanced diet, and consider a good multiviamin. Keep in mind that at 13, hormone fluctuations are happening, which can often cause outbreaks of the herpes virus. You may also talk to a doctor about an oral anti-viral medication designed for the herpes virus. I have found that the “Abreva” topical cream works well for me- maybe try that first? Remember that the causes of outbreaks are often stress related, hormone related , or physical-stress (dental work, recent chiropractic adjustment, ect..) related. Good luck!

Be warned this is going to BURN! But it works… dab the coldsore with a q-tip dipped in nail polish remover. Within a day it will be gone.

I have found Lipactin works really well when applied as soon as I feel the tingle.

Take Lysine. It works. You can find it at your local health food store.

I know exactly what she is going through – mine started when I was in first grade. It is a horrible experience, growing up with these monstrous things on your face. I’ve tried Blistex, Carmex, yogurt, salt (Dr. suggestion), and many other so-called cures over the years (40 of them) and only found one product that actually works.

When the cold sore first starts (there is an itchy feeling for me) I put one drop of Melaleuca Oil on it.
I put another drop of it on after meal times and once before bed. It usually only takes 4 to 5 applications to be completely rid of it. If you can’t treat ir right away, it takes a little longer (perhaps a day) to be rid of it.

This has been working for me for over ten years now. The cold sore, if caught & treated right away doesn’t even show. I can feel it, but not see it in the mirror & I am looking for it.

If you would like more info on Melaleuca products, send me an email.
