Possible to need root canal treatment even if tooth is not hot/cold sensitive?

I am experiencing intermittent dull pain in one tooth. The gum surrounding that tooth also feels swollen/sore. The gums on the whole right side of my mouth occasionally feel swollen as well, although it’s usually just around that one tooth. The tooth isn’t temperature sensitive at all and is not discolored either. It doesn’t hurt when I tap it, if anything it feels a little numb? I’ve been trying to chew on the left side of my mouth for the last few weeks, but the last time I chewed on the right side, it was a little sore (but not stabbing pain)

Is it possible to need RCT w/o the tooth being temperature sensitive? Does the above sound like RCT symptoms or just sore gums?
